After a rather underwhelming first year with the Duke Blue Devils, former five-star power forward TJ Power has decided to take his talents elsewhere.
Taking to X on Thursday, Power announced that he is transferring from Duke. He thanked the Duke coaching staff and said that the school will always have a place in his heart.
“This past year in Durham has been one of the best years of my life and I’m forever grateful for all the great relationships that I’ve built here in my short time,” Power wrote.
“Duke will always have a place in my heart but it’s time to do what is best for me and with that being said I will be entering my name into the transfer portal.”
Coming out of high school in 2023, Power was the No. 17 overall prospect per 247Sports. He was the No. 4 power forward in the country and the No. 1 prospect from the state of Massachusetts.
But as a freshman in the 2023-24 season, Power appeared in 26 games and averaged just seven minutes per game.
Fans have taken to the comments of Power’s post to offer him luck and even make a few suggestions as to where he can go next:
“Please God I don’t ask for much but this man needs to be a Boston College Eagle,” one user wrote.
“Good luck to TJ! Wishing him the best,” wrote another.
“Pretty rare that you see a work ethic as impressive as TJ’s in a young player. He’s going to be phenomenal wherever he lands,” a third declared.
