DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — For the second time in just over a week, Duke men’s basketball is facing a top 2 opponent, but this time it’s in the 2024 SEC/ACC Challenge, and the Blue Devils themselves are back in the top 10.
No. 9 Duke (5-2) is hosting No. 2 Auburn (7-0) on Wednesday night. Tip off at Cameron Indoor Stadium is scheduled for 9:25 p.m.
Last Tuesday, the Blue Devils suffered a narrow loss to No. 1 Kansas at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. But the strength of their play in that game, followed by a win against Seattle at home on Friday night, put them back among the 10 best teams in the AP’s latest rankings.
Auburn spent last week in Hawai’i, winning the 2024 Maui Invitational after winning three games in a row at the Lahaina Civic Center — including an 85-72 win over Duke’s archrival North Carolina on Nov. 26. Their tournament championship put them solidly in the No. 2 spot in AP’s latest rankings behind the Jayhawks.
Duke begins Atlantic Coast Conference play this weekend. The Blue Devils will travel to Louisville to face the Cardinals at the KFC Yum! Center on Sunday night.
