We’re a little more than seven hours away from the unveiling of the 2025 men’s NCAA Tournament bracket.
Almost every spot in the field has been decided at this point, with only a few conference title games remaining. As far as No. 1 seeds go, all indications are they will be Auburn, Duke, Florida and Houston, though we’re still waiting to see which of those four will be the top overall seed.
ESPN’s Basketball Power Index (BPI) updated this morning following the results of last night’s games. Defined as “a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of performance going forward,” BPI is meant to indicate “how many points above or below average a team is.”
One of the metrics calculated by BPI is each team’s chance of winning the national title. Right now, Duke is holding steady with the best odds after last night’s 73-62 win over Louisville in the ACC Tournament championship.
The Blue Devils have a 25.7% chance of winning it all, with Houston behind them at 20.4%. Auburn is the only other team with greater than 10% odds of winning the title, sitting at 13.8%.
Despite falling behind by 14 points to Georgia Tech in the first half of Thursday’s quarterfinals and losing freshman star Cooper Flagg and veteran big man Maliq Brown to injury, Duke rallied to beat the Yellow Jackets.
Jon Scheyer’s team then dispatched UNC and Louisville to win its second ACC tourney crown in the last three years.
“We’ve approached the whole year to finish what’s right in front of you,” Scheyer said following Saturday’s win. “For us to be tested these last three games the way we have, we’re going to learn a ton from it. It’s going to give us extra motivation and lessons to move forward.”
Flagg is expected to return at some point during the NCAA Tournament, while Brown’s case is a little more up in the air. Either way, the ESPN computers are bullish on the Blue Devils.
