Duke freshman guard Jared McCain is now in rare air.
The 6-foot-3 freshman from Sacramento poured in 35 points as No. 9 Duke won at Florida State, 76-67. His scoring output tied Zion Williamson for the most points ever for a Duke freshman.
“A special performance,” Duke coach Jon Scheyer told reporters.
“That was up there with any of them. JJ [Redick] should watch out. It was just his grit, his will, his determination to win was special.”

McCain shot 12-of-20 from the field and 8-of-11 from deep as the Blue Devils improved to 20-5, 11-3 ACC.
Jeremy Roach added 16 points for Duke, which earlier in the day was projected as a 3 seed (No. 12 overall) by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee.
McCain is projected as a potential first-round pick in this year’s NBA Draft.
