DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – The Duke women’s golf program has a long history with NCAA championships. This week, the school will make its 34th appearance in program history.
However, for Blue Devil graduate student Emma McMyler, this will be the first time she plays for an NCAA title in her collegiate career.
“I’m super excited,” McMyler told CBS 17 Sports. “It’s something that I’ve been looking forward to this year, and I’ve been working toward it for the past four years now. So, it’s exciting to finally play in a national championship.”
McMyler was a standout golfer at Xavier, where she became the first women’s golfer in Big East Conference history to be named Golfer of the Year three straight times. Despite her individual success, Xavier never advanced to the NCAA championship as a team during her time there, which was part of the reason she decided to come to Duke as a grad transfer.
“I wanted to join a program that has had some great history in the past, playing in national championships and winning,” McMyler said. “Ever since I’ve been here for the past year, I’ve really enjoyed it, and I’m really excited to compete for a national championship with this team.”
The NCAA championship will be her final match as a collegiate athlete, and there’s no place she’d rather have her career come to an end.
“To go out with a bang would be awesome,” McMyler said. “I’m excited to compete with this team and give it a good run.”
