After an impressive freshman season, Duke guard Jared McCain has decided that now is the right time for him to pursue a career in the NBA.
McCain announced his decision on Instagram. He thanked his coaches, teammates and family in a heartfelt video.
“Today, I’m filled with such gratitude and appreciate for my life, for everything that has been brought to me this year. I want to thank the coaching staff, my family, my teammates for everything they’ve done,” McCain said. “Words cannot describe the gratitude I have for Coach Scheyer. He believed in me when I felt like he could’ve given up on me and not given me a chance as a freshman.”
McCain then explained why he’s going pro this summer.
“I’ve always been a dream chaser. I’ve always been one to reach my goals. The next one is the NBA. With that being said, I’m entering my name in the 2024 NBA Draft.”
In his only season at Duke, McCain averaged 14.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. He showcased his range from the 3-point line all year long, knocking down 41.4 percent of his attempts from downtown.
The highlight of McCain’s freshman season was scoring 30 points in a Round of 32 victory over James Madison.
Duke fans are wishing McCain all the best as he gets ready for the NBA Draft.
