It may have taken over a decade, but at long last Manny Diaz got his revenge on Mack Brown.
Diaz was infamously fired by Brown back in 2013 after Texas gave up 550 rushing yards to BYU under his watch as Longhorns defensive coordinator. Brown publicly called him out before terminating him and the two had an icy relationship for years afterwards.
Now as the head coach of Duke, Diaz’s Blue Devils stormed back from 20 points down to beat their hated in-state rival — coached by the man who made an example of him 11 years ago.
Fans were loving it on social media.
“Manny Diaz finally got to stick it to mack brown. Good for him,” a user said.
“When Mack brown gets fired, the irony that his legacy ends at the hands of manny Diaz is perfect,” another pointed out.
“Manny Diaz getting Mack Brown fired after what happened at UT would be quite the story,” a fan replied.
“Manny Diaz finally beats Mack Brown … Wow.”
“Manny Diaz just sent Mack Brown into retirement,” another person posted.
“Eleven years after getting fired by Mack Brown just two weeks into a season, Manny Diaz beat his old coach to send Mack’s UNC program spiraling.”
Diaz has the Bull City fired up with a 5-0 start — something they didn’t even do under Mike Elko in 2023.
He’ll look to keep it rolling with a road test against Georgia Tech next week on the ACC Network.
