If you stayed up late enough for last night’s ACC football tilt between Florida State and Duke at Wallace Wade Stadium, you would’ve gotten to see the Blue Devils record their first-ever win over the Seminoles.
Florida State scored a field goal on their opening drive to take a 3-0 lead, only to cede the lead on a Brock Glenn pick-six later in the quarter to give Duke the 7-3 lead and the Blue Devils held that lead for the rest of the game. FSU’s offense couldn’t even muster a touchdown as their only seven-pointer of the game came on the opening kickoff of the third quarter. Other than that, their offense was anemic as Duke secured a 23-16 win.
After an 0-20 start to the Duke-FSU “rivalry” in the ACC, one would think that the Blue Devils fans would rush the field afterwards the way so many schools do whenever they beat an historic program at home. But in a curious show of restraint that fans on social media quickly noticed, the Duke fans in attendance didn’t seem to think it necessary.
I think the worst and most insulting part is Duke’s fans didn’t even feel the need to even rush the field after beating Florida State for the first time in program history.
This is the worst Florida State team I have ever seen. Never have I been more frustrated watching this… pic.twitter.com/yXGeIe6QWp

While it might have been attributed to a critical mass of fans simply not being at Wallace Wade Stadium, many believe that the lack of a field rush is a sign that Florida State has fallen so far to the point that they aren’t even worth rushing the field when they’re beaten:
“The biggest burn for Florida State was the fact the Duke fans didn’t rush the field. Adding insult to injury,” one user remarked after the game.
“FSU Football is so bad this season that Duke fans didn’t even rush the field after finally beating them for the first time last night,” wrote another.
“FSU is so bad, Duke fans didnt even rush the field for their first ever win against them. That says all you need to know,” a third wrote.
Florida State are now 1-6 on the season and head coach Mike Norvell is likely on borrowed time as the administrators ponder when and how to give the man his walking papers.
Have Florida State officially hit rock bottom now?
