DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – Two of the winningest programs in college basketball will square off in Las Vegas during the week of Thanksgiving later this year.
Duke and Kansas will play against each other in the 2024 Vegas Showdown at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Nov. 26, according to a news release from Duke Athletics on Thursday.
This battle of blue blood programs is part of a doubleheader that includes a hardwood matchup between Furman and Seattle. As part of the event, Duke will also host Seattle at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham on Nov. 29.
The highly-anticipated matchup between the Blue Devils and the Jayhawks features two squads expected to enter the 2024-25 season as preseason top-10 teams. The Blue Devils bring in the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation, highlighted by No. 1 overall recruit Cooper Flagg and projected top-five 2025 NBA Draft pick Khaman Maluach.
Meanwhile, Duke also returns veterans Tyrese Proctor and Caleb Foster, as well as adds incoming transfers Sion James (Tulane), Maliq Brown (Syracuse), Mason Gillis (Purdue) and Cameron Sheffield (Rice), providing a solid mixture of talent and experience for Jon Scheyer and his coaching staff.
No men’s basketball programs have more victories over the last 27 years than Duke and Kansas, which amassed 783 and 779 wins, respectively. The two schools combined for nine NCAA titles and 32 Final Four appearances.
The Nov. 26 matchup is the first meeting between Duke and Kansas since the 2022 Champions Classic in Indianapolis, which saw the Jayhawks coming out on top with a 69-64 victory.
