NEW YORK (WNCN) – One day after Jared McCain heard his name called at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, another Duke Blue Devils standout is officially heading off to the professional ranks.
The Utah Jazz selected former Duke forward Kyle Filipowski with the No. 32 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft on Thursday.
The 7-foot big man earned second-team All-American honors last season, leading the Blue Devils with 16.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while shooting 50.6% from the floor and 34.8% from behind the arc.
He started in all 72 games over the past two seasons, and played a vital role in leading Duke to the Elite Eight before losing to North Carolina State in the 2024 NCAA Tournament. Throughout the four postseason games, the sophomore averaged 11.0 points and 8.8 rebounds with a 42.9% field-goal percentage and 33.3% from three-point range.
Filipowski was one of the best remaining players on the board after getting passed over on Wednesday in the two-day draft event. Many draft experts initially projected him as a mid-to-late first-round selection.
