Duke will be without one of its top young players for the rest of the 2023-24 season.
Head coach Jon Scheyer announced on Thursday that Caleb Foster will miss the entire NCAA Tournament after suffering a stress fracture of the ankle. The injury occurred last month.
Foster hasn’t played since Feb. 24 against Wake Forest. He played 22 minutes and finished with eight points, three rebounds, and an assist.
He finished in double figures eight times this season, with 18 points being his career-high.
Foster averaged 7.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, and two assists per game as a freshman. He’s expected to grow into one of Duke’s best players for next season and beyond.
Foster was part of Duke’s 2023 recruiting class and was a five-star recruit, per 247Sports composite rankings. Regardless of position, he was also the No. 19 overall recruit in the country.
Duke is set to take on Vermont in the South region on Friday. With a win, the former would take on the winner of the James Madison-Wisconsin game this weekend.
Tip-off is set for 7:10 p.m. ET and it’ll be nationally televised by CBS.
