Duke’s roster for the 2024-25 season is going to look awfully different in large part because half the team entered the transfer portal.
Senior guard Jeremy Roach has already announced that he’s declaring for the NBA Draft and entering the transfer portal. That news surprised many people.
Former five-star recruit Mark Mitchell, meanwhile, announced his commitment to Missouri on Friday.
Jaylen Blakes, TJ Power, Christian Reeves and Jaden Schutt have also entered the transfer portal. On Friday, another member of the Blue Devils joined them.
Sean Stewart, a former top-20 recruit, announced that he’s entering the transfer portal. His decision was made just one day after Power revealed that he’s leaving Duke.
“I am grateful to have fulfilled a dream to play for the Blue Devils! I made some great memories that I will always cherish,” Stewart said. “I have decided for my continued growth and development of my basketball goals, I will be entering the transfer portal.”
The good news for Duke is that Jon Scheyer has a loaded recruiting class coming in for next season. Cooper Flagg, Khaman Maluach and Isaiah Evans should all make an immediate impact.
On the flip side, Duke will lack experience next season. It’s tough to win a national title in today’s era of college basketball without having productive upperclassmen.
