Clemson has reportedly suspended defensive tackle DeMonte Capehart following an arrest earlier this month.
Capehart was arrested on Feb. 6 and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm on school property. He was also charged with “failure to exercise due care” while driving a motor vehicle.
According to The Post and Courier‘s Jon Blau, Clemson suspended Capehart from team activities amid an investigation.
“We have been aware of the facts of the case from the start, and he is not presently participating in team activities while awaiting completion of all legal and university processes,” the school said in a statement.
Capehart has played 34 career games for Clemson in a reserve role. The 6-foot-5, 320-pounder tallied 15 tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble last season.
With Ruke Orhorhoro and Tyler Davis going to the NFL, Capehart might have been poised to earn more significant playing time for Dabo Swinney’s program in 2024. The South Carolina native was slated to return for his fifth year.
According to The Clemson Insider, police found an unloaded gun in Capehart’s trunk that didn’t belong to him. Via the Associated Press, court records say he posted a $10,000 bond for the gun charge and a $232.50 bond for the traffic charge.
