Clemson cornerback Nate Wiggins suffered an injury this Friday at the NFL Combine while participating in the 40-yard dash.
Wiggins told NFL reporter Stacey Dales that he injured his groin and felt like it “popped.” Obviously, that’s not great to hear when the draft is less than two months away.
Thankfully, the latest update on Wiggins’ status is somewhat encouraging.
According to ESPN’s Jordan Reid, the current expectation is that Wiggins suffered a hip flexor strain.
“Clemson CB Nate Wiggins sustained a hip flexor strain during his first and only 40-yard dash attempt at the Combine,” Reid said. “He’s expected to be ready for Pro Day on April 1st.”
If Wiggins recovers in time for his pro day, that would be ideal – albeit hip flexor strains can be tricky to recover from.
Despite suffering this injury, Wiggins managed to record a 4.29 in the 40-yard dash. He’s such a fierce competitor that he was hoping to run a 4.2 flat.
As for his production last season, Wiggins racked up 28 total tackles, six pass deflections, two forced fumbles and two interceptions for Clemson.
Wiggins is currently projected to be a first-round pick in this year’s draft. We’ll have a better idea of his draft stock once his pro day arrives.
