With the clock winding down on Florida State’s upcoming loss to Clemson, most Seminoles fans left Doak Campbell Stadium with time to spare. But one very memorable fan was seen in the stands.
Florida State were outscored 17-0 in the first quarter and trailed 23-7 at halftime. By the middle of the fourth quarter they trailed 26-13, but the ‘Noles were so anemic on offense that it might as well have been 56-13. Fans started leaving until only one remained in a particular section: A shirtless man reading a book.
Fans who are in up to date on the “lore” of the FSU-Clemson series might remember that back in 2018 there was a fan in the stands at Doak Campbell Stadium with thick white hair reading a book while the ‘Noles trailed 52-3. That fan turned out to be a Florida State professor named Bruce Thyer.
By the looks of it, Thyer has returned to reprise his role in representing a turning point in the football program’s history – and fans loved to see it:

Florida State lost the game 29-13 – not nearly as bad as the last time the shirtless, book-reading fan made his first appearance at a game, but probably not insignificantly either.
The ‘Noles are now 1-5 on the season and head coach Mike Norvell could be on borrowed time down in Tallahassee.
