Former NFL wide receiver Roddy White made an observation during Saturday’s game between Clemson and Georgia that really got under peoples’ skins.
During the game, White posted about how there looked to him to be too many “white dudes” on the offense for Georgia. He mused that Clemson must have a recruiting problem if the Tigers “only got one Black dude out there making plays.”
“Clemson got way to (sic) many White dudes on the field on offense this ain’t them. U mean to tell me u only got one Black dude out there making plays that’s a recruiting problem,” White wrote on X this past weekend.
Whether White was trying to be funny or analytical with the remark, the overwhelming response to his post on X was that he was being racist.
White clearly saw the reaction because he took to X again on Sunday to apologize:
“I am getting a lot of blow back for the to many white players comment I apologize if someone thought I was being racist which everybody around me knows I’m not. I looked out there and 10 of the 11 players were white I can’t recall ever seeing a Clemson team like that,” White wrote.

Clemson went on to lose the game 34-3 – one of the most lopsided losses that the program has ever had under head coach Dabo Swinney.
Granted, it was at the hands of a Georgia team that has a knack for running up the score against teams that aren’t in its weight class.
Up next for Clemson: Appalachian State.
