Mukuba was named ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year after recording 47 tackles, a sack, a fumble recovery, and seven passes defended in 2021. According to the team, the four-star recruit became the first true freshman defensive back to start a season-opener for Clemson.
He added 54 tackles and a pick last year before recording two tackles for a loss, a fumble recovery, and six pass breakups in 2023. Despite a disappointing 8-4 season, the Tigers allowed just 162.2 passing yards per game with a 52.5 opposing completion rate.
Clemson enjoyed another standout freshman campaign from safety Khalil Barnes, who commenced his college career with three interceptions, five tackles for losses, and a fumble returned for a touchdown. He’ll play a heavier role leading Dabo Swinney’s secondary if Mukuba leaves this winter.
Mukuba could also declare for the 2024 NFL Draft. The 6-foot, 195-pound Texas native is the No. 170 overall player on Pro Football Focus’ big board
Cornerback Toriano Pride Jr., offensive lineman Mitchell Mayes, and quarterback Hunter Helms are among other Clemson players who have entered the transfer portal.
