Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers will be put to the test fairly early this season. On Sept 23, they’ll face the Florida State Seminoles in what should be a thrilling matchup between top-10 ranked programs.
With the college football season set to begin this weekend, an old video of Swinney throwing shade at Florida State has resurfaced on social media.
“We’re not doctors. I’m not trying to be a doctor. I just listen to the doctors,” Swinney said. “I’m not really worried much about what they say down there in Tallahassee, that’s for sure. I’ve been in this league for 18 years and been a coach here 12. They’ve had three head coaches in four years, so the decisions that they make … I’m not going to worry about advice from Tallahassee. I trust the people here.”
These comments were made in November of 2020. Swinney pretty much called out Florida State while saying he trusts Clemson’s doctors to give him proper advice amid all the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19.

Swinney’s comments haven’t aged that well.
Florida State’s days of having uncertainty at head coach appear to be over. Mike Norvell showed a ton of promise in Tallahassee last season, leading the Seminoles to a 10-3 record.
The winner of next month’s Clemson-Florida State showdown will be the odds-on favorite to win the ACC.
