Clemson’s 2024 season started off in very disappointing fashion. Dabo Swinney’s squad got flat-out embarrassed by Georgia this Saturday afternoon, losing 34-3.
There were so many reasons why Clemson struggled this afternoon, but the main takeaway is that Swinney’s offense lacks a true difference-maker at quarterback. Cade Klubnik completed 18 of 29 pass attempts for 142 yards and an interception.
As you’d expect, college football fans mocked Swinney for his team’s performance. Some even said his days of coaching a national title contender.
With that said, Swinney opened up his postgame press conference by apologizing to Clemson fans.
“Sorry for our fans,” Swinney told reporters. “I feel terrible for them. We didn’t get it done for them.”
Swinney then took full accountability for the loss. To be fair, that’s his job since he’s the head coach.
“When you get beat like that, that’s on the head coach,” Swinney continued. “Complete ownership of an absolute crap second half. Sometimes you get your butt kicked and we did today.”
Clemson will try to bounce back next weekend against Appalachian State. The Tigers will need to win that game in convincing fashion if they want to keep their fans upbeat.
For now though, Clemson fans are left wondering what went wrong for Swinney’s program.
