The football community is mourning the loss of former Clemson wide receiver Diondre Overton on Saturday.
Overton passed away at the age of 26, per Clemson Football.
“Clemson Football and the entire Clemson Family mourns the passing of Clemson alumnus Diondre Overton. Our thoughts are with his family and friends,” Clemson football said, via a statement.
Overton played for Clemson from 2016-19 and helped the program win two national titles in 2016 and 2018. He then went on to play in the NFL, USFL, and UFL after his collegiate career ended.
He last played for the UFL’s Memphis Showboats this season and even played for the Vienna Vikings in the European League of Football
During his collegiate career, Overton caught 52 passes for 777 yards and seven touchdowns.
He was from Greensboro, North Carolina, and was a four-star recruit in the 2016 recruiting class, per 247Sports composite rankings. He was the eighth-best recruit in North Carolina and the No. 39 wide receiver recruit in the county. He was also the No. 196 overall recruit, regardless of position.
