Drew Swinney had landed a new role on his father’s Clemson football staff entering the 2024 season.
As noted by The State‘s Chapel Fowler, the Tigers recently updated their official staff directory. They now list Swinney, the son of head coach Dabo Swinney, as an offensive player development and assistant wide receivers coach.
The younger Swinney served as a graduate assistant last season. New NCAA rules eliminated a limit of 10 on-field instructors, so the Tigers now have 20 coaching support staffers.
Drew Swinney spent four years playing for his dad’s football program, which he joined as a walk-on before the 2019 season. The wide receiver tallied 14 catches for 96 yards over his collegiate career.
He’ll work under Tyler Grisham, who is entering his fifth full season as Clemson’s wide receivers coach. Dabo Swinney, a former walk-on receiver at Alabama, oversaw the same position when joining Clemson’s staff in 2003
Drew joins a Clemson staff including former All-American defensive lineman Da’Quan Bowers, who returns for a second season as a defensive analyst and defensive ends coach. Tajh Boyd, the school’s all-time leader in passing touchdowns, is an offensive assistant and assistant quarterbacks coach.
Clemson fell short of double-digit wins for the first time since 2010 when going 9-4 in 2023. The offense averaged just 228.4 passing yards per game, with freshman Tyler Brown posting a team-high 531 receiving yards.
The Swinney family will face a steep test when starting the season against Georgia on Saturday, Aug. 31.
